Transform a chair into a bike holder

Come and make this limited edition bike holder. We will reuse an old school chair to create a holder that can be placed on the wall. During the workshop you will have the possibility to practice iron cutting and welding (electrode or wire), perfect your sanding, and apply paint. You will also be involved in the conception process. The design can be adapted so that it in turn houses a plant. There are only 15 units available that will be distributed in 3 workshops. Each unit is numbered.

The vast majority of homes have environmental problems related both to construction and decoration materials, as well as to chemicals and technologies that are used on a daily basis. These problems affect the health of the people who live there. This cycle of workshops wants to identify the environmental problems that we can find in our homes and propose strategies to minimise them.


In the first workshop we will focus on the factors that affect the quality of the air and the indoor environment of our homes: humidity, temperature, paints, wood treatments, cleaning products, disinfectants, insecticides, etc.

Make your own Hawaii lamp

Come and make your own Hawaii lamp from reclaimed bicycle wheel.

We will start with a tour of the center and a brief introduction on creation with transformation and reuse. Then you will create and customize your Hawaii lamp. You will learn how to connect the lamp holder with the cable, find out what works and then join all the parts of the bicycle in a creative process. Basic tools (pliers, screwdriver and tweezers) will be used during creation.

In the end, you will not only have had the possibility of being a maker for a day, but you will also take a designer object to decorate your home.

Introduction to woodworking with reuse

During the course we will teach you how to use the different carpentry machines (both manual and tabletop) that we have at TransfoLAB BCN. At the beginning, we will talk about the different types of wood and what precautions to take into account when using reclaimed wood or from pallets. 

We will proceed with the characteristics and use of the most common woodworking machines:
- table saw
- miter saw
- table planner
- biscuit joiner
- hand router
- belt sander
- rotary orbital sander

You will have the opportunity to work with each of them and learn how to manipulate different pieces of wood.
The course is a good base to start your own project or to participate in one of our furniture manufacturing workshops.

Learn how to write with iron wire

In this course you will learn how to write or draw with iron wire. Using a variety of hand tools, you can bring home your name or that of your loved ones. Or make your own drawing and shape it. It is a perfect course to develop your artisan skills, and in the future create various details and decorative elements.

Introduction to metalwork with reuse

During the course we will teach you how to use the different metalworking machines that we have at TransfoLAB BCN. At the beginning, we will talk about iron and what to take into account when working with recovered material.

We will proceed with the characteristics and use of the most common machines in metalworking:
- metal cutter
- grinder with cutting disc, grinding disc and thousand-blade disc
- welder with electrode
- welder with wire
- different clamps

You will have the opportunity to work with each of them and learn how to manipulate different pieces of metal.

The course is a good base to start your own project or to participate in one of our furniture manufacturing workshops.

How to make objects with metal scraps

10:00-13:00 28 November 2020

Introductory course in autogenous welding. At the beginning, we will talk about the different types of metals (copper, brass, iron etc) and their characteristics.
We will proceed with the characteristics of the autogenous welding machine and what to take into account when fusing different metals. We will finish with a practical part of joining several pieces of metal in one piece.
