Re-vamping Paramithias
Date: 13th to 16th of September 2013
Place: Paramithias Street, Keramikos, Athens, Greece
Transfodesign organized an upcycling workshop as part of ReMap 4 where during four days the participants had the opportunity to rethink and redesign the use of the pedestrian portion of Paramithias Street in the hearth of Keramikos. After talking to the local residents several needs and areas of improvement were identified, and the workshop had as an objective to solve some of them.
Sixteen architecture students worked on:
-the littering and the habitation of the local stray cats – several ladies in the street feed and shelter stray cats which provoke some problems in the area, such as abundance of faeces, fleas, diseases and bad odour.
-socialising space and a small garden – some of the residents liked to have a place where they could gather, sit, relax and socialise.
-children playground – the local kids expressed a desire to have a small playground (swing, slide etc)
-bicycle parking and trash-bin (recycling)
All the designs were executed with up-cycled and re-purposed materials donated by the Greek beer company Eza Protypos Hellenic Brewery S.A.
