Revalue your waste vol. 2
Convocatoria general 2023
The second edition of the “Revalue your waste” campaign was developed through a series of activities focused on raising awareness and education about the circular economy and the waste problem. The project started at the beginning of September and ended at the end of November, coinciding with the European Waste Prevention Week (EWPW). During these 3 months, citizens had the opportunity to actively participate in the proposed sessions or visit the events. The awareness campaign consisted of four types of activities:
- Educational Sessions
Courses and workshops taught by the TransfoLAB BCN team and members and collaborators in different fields related to the waste problem. During the project, 10 educational sessions were held with the following topics: Hawaii Lamp workshop (1 session), Introduction to carpentry (1 session), Welding for beginners (1 session), Learn to write with iron thread (1 session ), Mekanika Pro L CNC router training (3 sessions), Visible mending (1 session), Learn to make plates from recycled plastic (1 session) and Biomaterials with organic waste (1 session). During the sessions we have provided education and skills to 38 people with 46 participations. We have offered additional support to 11 unemployed people who were able to attend a class for free.
- Fabrication Sessions
During these sessions, registered people had their own resources at their disposal.
TransfoLAB BCN (access to the workshop area and use of shared tools), as well as the technical and creative assistance of the instructors. Each session lasted 4 hours and was designed so that the beneficiaries could carry out microprojects that consisted of manufacturing, reusing, transforming, etc., using most of the discarded or damaged materials and objects. We have offered 6 manufacturing sessions, which has allowed 11 people across 20 participations to create their microprojects. of which we have offered additional support to 4 unemployed people who were able to attend a manufacturing session for free.
- Repair Sessions
During these sessions, registered people had their disposal the TransfoLAB BCN resources (access to the workshop area and use of shared tools), as well as the technical and creative assistance of the instructors. Each session lasted between 3 and 4 hours and was designed so that the beneficiaries could repair different objects (pieces of clothing, appliances and small furniture). We have offered 6 repair sessions (1 for clothing repair, 1 for repair of electronic and electrical objects and 3 for repair of small furniture and decorative objects), which has allowed 12 people to carry out repairs through 17 participations. We have offered additional support to 11 unemployed people and students who were able to attend a repair session for free.
- Closing of the campaign during the European Waste Prevention Week (SEPR), on November 23, 2023, 7:00 p.m.
The third edition of TrashTalks took place, an event conceived as an evening featuring talks and video screenings focused on sustainable manufacturing, circular economy and entrepreneurship. This TrashTalk focused on well-being through design and fabrication, presenting projects focused on circularity, code-design and sustainable manufacturing as tools to achieve social innovation within communities. We had the pleasure of hosting Óscar Martínez from MakerConvent, Amaia Martín from Recetas Urbanas, and we presented our Trashycle project.
The campaign was supported by the Ajuntament de Barcelona.
